A Visit to RPS House, Bristol
It’s been a while since I last updated the website, so here’s a small milestone in my photographic journey that I didn’t get around to recording at the time.
In 2023, the RPS put out an open call to all of it’s members worldwide to submit images for an exhibition to be held at RPS House in Bristol that summer. I decided to submit a few images and was very pleasantly surprised when one of my cyanotypes was selected. The exhibition consisted of 80 images representing the finest work by RPS members in a wide variety of styles, genres and techniques. Fortunately, my wife and I were already planning to visit relatives in the Bristol area around that time so we were able to schedule a visit to the RPS Gallery to see the exhibition in the flesh.
This was my first image to appear in a prestigious national group exhibition so it was quite exciting to see it mounted and framed with all the other images on display in a professional standard gallery. Plus I got to visit the adjacent Martin Parr Foundation next door to browse their extensive collection of photobooks. All in all, A Grand Day Out!
Recently, the RPS Board have decided to sell their prestigious flagship building at the Paintworks in Bristol in order to ensure the charities long term financial stability. The funds released will also help fund investment in member services and spread more RPS activities across all areas of the UK. So it looks like this will have been my first and last visit to what was an impressive venue.
